When importing footwear, textiles and clothing, chemical products, hydrocarbons, explosive materials, steel products, automotive products, among others included in Annex 10 of the General Foreign Trade Rules, it is necessary to register in the Register of Importers of Specific Sectors.

5. To have a customs broker, customs agent and/or legal representative, who will carry out your foreign trade operations. In some cases, a customs broker is not required, especially for small imports.
What documents are required to clear the imported goods?
1. Most important documents:
Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading, Bill of Lading.
(If it is ocean shipping you present B/L, Air cargo you present AWB, Courier you present Courier waybill).
2.Transport insurance.
This is a contract with an insurance company that covers the possible risks associated with the goods during transport. If you have this document, you must present it. It is not compulsory.

Certificate of origin. Importing from China does not need this document because there is no free trade agreement between China and Mexico.
What else do you need to do to complete the operation?
Pay taxes. (Tax exemption: USD300)
You must pay the applicable taxes and duties, as well as the costs of storage, loading, unloading and transportation of the goods.
Taxes on imports into Mexico:
1.General Import Tax (IGI or tariffs), depends on the tariff fraction.

2. Value Added Tax (VAT). RATE: 16% * (CIFD + DTA)
3. DTA (Customs Processing Duty): 0.8 % CIF.
It is a payment for customs operations carried out using a pedimento or customs document.
4.Warehousing fee
Daily fees are applied for the storage of goods in bonded warehouses in bonded warehouses, after certain deadlines have expired.
5.IEPS (Special Tax on Production and Services)
It is applied for importing alcohol, tobacco, gasoline, diesel, energy or flavoured drinks, pesticides, non-basic foods, etc.

PRV/CNT (prevalidación electricrónica/ PRV-related counter-levy)
It is a fixed value published every year in the DOF (Diario Oficial de la Federación).
