Mobile payments are common in China. In large cities, mobile payments cover more than 90% of places, from peddlers to shopping malls. Of course, they also accept cash payment, however, they may not have change in store. Installing a mobile payment app before your trip to China will bring you a lot of convenience. Wechat pay and Alipay are two most used platforms. Wechat is a multi-function app, there is a situation where it limits registration from abroad and freezes foreign accounts, while Alipay focuses on paying and transferring. Alipay is a part of Ant Financial of the popular global e-commerce company, Alibaba. With Alipay you can pay (online or in store), transfer, receive money, call a taxi (didi), etc.
Instruction for use:
1.Download Alipay from Google Play or Apple Store, register with your cell phone number/email. Alipay will send you a message with a verification code. Enter the code, registration is ready.
2.Authenticate. Enter the verification page and fill out personal information.
3.Add your card, whether debit card or credit card. When you are ready, Alipay already connects with your card and you can use money from your card to pay. The currency will be changed according to the current exchange rate automatically.
There are two payment methods in the store: one, show your QR code (touch “Pay”) to the store, let the staff scan your code; another, scan the QR code (touch “scan”) of the store, enter the amount and enter the password to pay.
