As the world's largest exporter, China has a huge influence on world trade and shipping business. If you are considering doing business with this country, in addition to knowing how to negotiate in China, it is also recommended that you understand the port of entry and exit of the goods: the port.
Today we will introduce 8 major ports in China.
1.Shanghai Port
Shanghai Port set a new world record of 40 million TEUs in 2017, which has clearly consolidated its position as the largest port in China and the largest port in the world. In 2020, the container throughput of Shanghai Port reached 43.5 million TEUs, while the second largest port of Singapore was 36.9 million TEUs.
Its geographical location is close to the industrial centers of Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, strategically making it one of the most important ports in global trade.
2. Ningbo Zhoushan Port
Shanghai may be the first port to exceed 40 million TEUs, but Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is the first port to handle 1 billion tons of cargo each year. Thanks to its huge oil terminal and mineral loading terminal, this has been achieved to a large extent. It is located at the crossroads of the Silk Road and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. In addition, its 242 sea routes can be connected to more than 600 ports around the world. In 2020, the container throughput of Ningbo Port will reach 28 million TEUs.
3. Shenzhen Port
Shenzhen Port is located in Guangdong Province, connecting the southern part of the country with almost the rest of the world. The port is known as the gateway to the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong, handling 26 million TEUs in 2020.
4. Guangzhou Port
The port is located in southeastern China, near the mouth of the Pearl River in Guangdong Province, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and is considered the main port of the Pearl River Delta. Mainly manufactured products, industrial and agricultural products pass through it. In 2020, it handled 23 million TEUs.
Thanks to its superior geographical location, it is connected by sea to nearly 300 ports in more than 80 countries around the world.
5. Qingdao Port
Qingdao Port is well-known as a port specializing in refrigerated transportation and international transshipment. It is located in the Yellow River Basin of Shandong Province in eastern China. In 2020, 22 million TEUs were processed.
6.Hong Kong Port
In 2004, Hong Kong officially lost its throne as the world's major port, and its traffic volume has been declining since then. If this downward trend continues, analysts believe that Hong Kong will soon lose its position among the top five ports in the world. Despite this, it remains one of the busiest ports in the world, with more than 19.7 million TEUs processed in 2020.
7. Tianjin Port
It serves 11 northern provinces and Mongolia, and is the largest port in northern China. More than 18 million TEUs were processed in 2020.
8. Xiamen Port
Located in Fujian Province, Xiamen Port is the closest mainland port to Taiwan and the first port on the mainland to begin direct cargo delivery to Kaohsiung Port in Taiwan. Even today, it is still of great significance in the trade between the two sides of the strait. In 2020, Xiamen Port handled more than 11 million TEUs.
