What is the difference between air transport and international courier service?
Air Transport:
Air transport is cheaper than courier and also reaches the final destination very quickly. On average, it takes between two and ten business days for your order to arrive. However, air companies require that the minimum weight is 45 KG.
Unlike the courier service, the cargo will only arrive at the destination airport, in addition, customs clearance will be your responsibility. You can do it on your own or hire an agent to do the nationalization process for you.
This agent charges a fee to perform the service. The rate is estimated to be USD150 or 0.5% of the value of the merchandise, depending on the agent you will hire.
International courier:
It is the most expensive method of transportation. However, it is also the most efficient and fastest. It is an excellent way of shipping for documents or packages less than 100KG. The time of arrival of your merchandise is 3 to 7 business days.
Courier services are provided by companies such as FEDEX, DHL and UPS. By using the courier service, you don't have to worry much about your orders, since they are in charge of customs services and deliver your goods to your home address.
Note: None of DHL, FEDEX, UPS company can guarantee that there will be no problem with customs clearance. If the customs office of destination requests additional documents, DHL, FEDEX AND UPS will contact the recipient immediately.
Air fares are calculated based on the space that the cargo occupies on the plane.
If it is a large but light load where the volumetric weight exceeds the actual weight of the scale, the air freight is calculated according to the space it occupies on the aircraft. If it is a heavy load and a small volume, it is charged for the physical weight of the scale.
There are two ways to calculate volumetric weight:
1.Volumetric weight of carton = length (cm) × width (cm) x height (cm) ÷ 6000
2.Volumetric weight of cargo: total cargo volume (cubic meters) × 167kg
If the volumetric is bigger than the physical weight, it will be charged by the volumetric weight. Otherwise, it will be charged for the physical weight of the scale.
